Wouldn't vegetarian trolls just eat plants?

Seems obvious but if you are a tribe of vegetarian trolls (or goblins) living in a FOREST surrounded by plants wouldn't it be easier to just eat the damn plants instead of having to capture and turn humans into plants?

How often did these goblins get to eat? How many humans would there be coming thru that remote location anyway?

Then why do they call themselves 'vegetarian'? If something's half human it doesn't count as vegetation

Because they are evil and don't need to justify their evil deeds. Being evil monster, they hate humans so instead of just eating plants, they would rather turn humans into plants and eat them.
