The bubbles at the end in the subway
What is with the bubbles rising up from the water at the of the film down in the old subway? Is another creature rising up from Hell to finish what the other creature started?

shareIt's a tool used by a flawed script to try to add a bit of cleverness to the end of the film. It makes no sense, like most of the direction and the one-liners in the movie.
So trying to find a reason for the bubbles at the end of the movie is like the David Lynch Fanatics trying to find a meaning to his movies - there isn't one.
Honestly, if Rutger Hauer wasn't in this film, it never would even have made it to "USA UP ALL NIGHT" with Gilbert Gottfried.

Agreed. It could have made sense if he'd thrown the black heart into the pool and then shot it, but he didn't.
The whole end was a mess; very lacking in comparison to the first half hour which I thought was going to set it up as a sort of post-apocalyptic occult noir. Then the writer, the drafts and all the copies of the shooting script must have been devoured by hungry rats and they had to stitch it together with suggestions from the crew. Shame really. A horrible waste.
I'm not sure why, but the ending was done by a different director. That must explain the difference.
"I've been living off toxic waste for years, and I'm fine! Just ask my other heads!"
Wow... Way to miss the point.
The reason for the bubbles is incredibly simple, and it has nothing to do with supposed flaws in the script. It's similar to the ending of Godzilla in New York. They were setting up a sequel.
Prof. Farnsworth: Oh. A lesson in not changing history from Mr. I'm-My-Own-Grandpa!
it is the standard ending for horror movies - the the written in opportinuity for a sequal ;)
or they are just bubbles of a underwater rat farting
I'm with you, Director3.
I would like this movie A LOT more if they had scrapped Dick Durkin, had a heavier sound for the assault-shotgun and a little more action. I really liked the look of most things in the movie.
