Why did they let Tanya go?

Early in the film Charles takes Tanya to
his home and she meets Mary. They have her
to themselves, essentially trapped in the
house. Mary is starving. She has been
insistant, even forceful, about needing
Tanya to survive. So why does she let her
go? What could possibly be gained by
having Charles take her away on their "date"?
Oh, I know the real answer; so that the film
may have a run time over 30 minutes. But
any other theories? I'm sure some ingenious
folks here will come up with something
interesting. What are your thoughts?

I think you pretty well summed it up.....they needed to make a movie. ive wondered that same thing...

The only thing I can think of is that they wanted to avoid what happened at the place they used to live where they made that same mistake and the house became a defacto crime scene. In this day and age you can take it for granted that someone is always watching and no matter how careful you are you will make a mistake and not be able to account for the unexpected such as a witness.

Not only that, but somehow their feeding cycles or the energy they give off when they are about to feed, hungry, or feeding becomes a homing signal for cats and they wanted to avoid another cat invasion.

Makes a lot of sense.

I think Charles really liked Tanya too. In a sense the mother knew she was going to get fed so why not let him have his fun. I agree also with the last poster, if they did it in the house so soon they would be too suspicious to the town.

ummm cuz charles liked Tanya LOL

was like the whole point of the film, he was having issues cuz he cared for her but still loves hes mother

yeah i think they were trying to be safe and he would go suck her soul sumwhere else and bring it back 2 mother

it may have also had something to do with the rose. Maybe you have to stick the rose there for a while or something :P before sucking their life force.

i just watched this yesterday and still cant fathom why they would let her go...SHES RIGHT THERE!!!..the only thing i can think of is that she(the mother) in her own way,was toying with tanya.. kind of doible checking that she was "pure" or worthy of having her soul sucked.. casue i always wonder.. why does it have to be tanya? why not just suck the teachers soul? (probably cause he was a jerk).. or any other girl?

Like I posted earlier they didn't want to make their new home a crime scene like they had perviously done. I think they figured they could get one or two more virgins before they had to move away again. As far as the teacher I think they didn't go after him because he wasn't a virgin and was male and they only go after female virgins. Of the victim they had killed earlier in the film and Tanya, both were female and in their late teens so maybe age plays into it as much as gender in some way that isn't exactly aparant.

With respect to the full length mirror, you have to consider the fact that they never had company over (as evidenced by the way Charles acted when Mary invited Tanya to enter the house.) Also, I always thought by the look of the house that they were renting it and it came furnished with all that. Logistically speaking, the way they left their previous location they wouldn't have had the opportunity to rent a Uhaul, put down a deposit, pack, and then return it. If they did, it would've been easier for police in the last town they were in to track them. I think they just got the most remote place they could and it just so happened it was furnished with old furniture and had that mirror there. Due to the fact they hadn't been in town long and probably weren't planning to be, it wasn't to high on their list of priorities.

I was trying to figure this myself. The mother already said as soon as they get her they was going on the run again, so it was not like they was afraid of leaving a dead body there. Plus if she was starving to the point of slapping her son around there is no point of toying with them. I think the Rose was just a decoration for their meal. If the Mom was willing to let her son have some fun before feeding she wouldn't have been so abusive to him because he kept her waiting.

I thought that maybe Tonya and or the son had to be in some state of sexual arousal in order to activate feeding mode or whatever.and Tonya wasn't going to be in the mood at that scary old house and Charles would be nervous cause of his mother
