The Other Nuns

It took me forever to recognize and realize who Anna Lee and Portia Nelson from "The Sound of Music" were in other appearances they made out of the habit.

Now I find I am doing the same thing here with the other nuns. Aside from Najimy and Mackenna, and Smith of course, and then the overwhelimingly delightful Wickes (I bet you when she was appearing on Beverly Hillbillies and the Lucy show, she never imagined she would be singing versus from "My Guy"), can anyone pinpoint some of the others?

Carmen Zapata. I recognized the name and looked her up. She wasn't the one I thought she was. She was the only one who raised her hand when Maggie smith asked who wanted to do more standard singing for the Pope.

She appeared in an episode of the old Nightstalker show as a landlady who finds a body, but she was quite effective in driving subject home to me that I obviously know nothing about.

In a 1980s movie called "Children of Divorce" Barbara Feldon found she needed a job. She applied at a furniture store, and the woman hiring was Zapata.

Zapata asked if Feldon could speak Spanish, as the business was in a predominantly Spanish neighborhood.

Feldon "I can speak house spanish."

Zapata looks at her, "such as what you would speak to a maid? -- I'm sorry. We can't hire you."

I didn't watch the rest of that movie, but Zapata's big brown eyes and the situation was very powerful.

Back to Sister Act, I thought the rapping grandma from "Wedding Singer" was in this, but apparently she isnt is she?

And who is the younger looking nun with big brown eyes (I thought she was Zapata at first before I looked the woman up) who sings during "My Guy" 'you best be believing'.

Several of the nuns have clear voices. I would guess they did more voice over work than anything else. Or they sang somewhere else, perhaps in another movie?

i can't match the faces to the names, so i wouldn't be looking for many of the nuns as they all dress the same! love the research though ;)

I was wondering also who was the younger nun who says "you best be believing"(My Guy)...and says "I love Reno" when they were sitting at the table talking about convents. Does anyone know?

Susan Johnson, Ruth Kobart, Susan Browning, and Beth Fowler are all legendary performers in Broadway musicals -which is why they were cast in this film. Only Beth Fowler is still with us -and she is still performing on the stage. She originated the role of Mrs. Potts in the stage version of Beauty And The Beast on Broadway, singing the title song.

I was just going to mention Beth Fowler as well, fshepinc.

I saw her play Mrs Lovett (opposite Bob Gunton as Sweeney) in Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd" in the Circle in the Square in New York in the 1980s. She was absolutely amazing.

But for that part..."I love Reno"..that's not Beth Fowler...she was a younger type nun in the Sister Act Series....

Beth Fowler appeared as one of the nuns. She was in the original Broadway productions of COMPANY, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, BABY, and MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS.

Yes the Rosie, the rapping Grandma, is in the movie. She's Ellen A. Dow- choir nun.
