Recently saw the Musical Show

I went yesterday to see the Musical Show in Madrid. I had only seen the beginning of the film but never finished it and didn't know the full story. I have to say, I loved the Musical. It was full of charming and inventive songs, the story was fun and all the characters were great, especially the lead character and the nun leader. Even the characters with small roles were great. The show lasted almost 3 hours with one intermission and it didn't seem long to me at all because I enjoyed it so much. I really recommend it to anyone living in Madrid to go see it before they take it away.

I wish they'd do a live version of "Sister Act" for TV. I saw the out of town tryout in Pasadena in 2006 which was in great need of work. Patina Miller was the understudy for the original Dolores and was one of the chorus nuns. I saw it on Broadway in 2012 and found it to have been much, much better. Carolee Carmello had taken over the role of the reverend mother superior, and did something so funny which made me chortle very loudly. As I had a rush ticket and was in the front row within ear shot of her, she flashed me a look of approval acknowledging my pleasure in what she had done, but stayed in character. By this time, Patina was the star, and it was a very wise re-casting. If they do it for TV, nobody but Patina should do it. She is magnetic!

"Great theater makes you smile. Outstanding theater may make you weep."
