Allie's proto-laptop (48k on disk!)

Anyone know the details of Allie's portable computer? (Make, specs' etc?)
I would also be interested to know the cost of it back then as such a large LCD display must have been bloody expensive! Was that a CD drawer I saw on the side?

Good guess, but not right.
Allie's computer has a large-ish DETACHABLE screen.
The early Mac portable has a smaller, fixed (hinged) screen.
But thanks for the link, I love old computers!

It looks like some sorta "cobbled" together thing, bits and pieces from different computers, like the reference to Apple, but not Apple laptop ever looked like that. Even the ancient ones!

I think you may be right. I'm almost certain she uses a Mac at work though.

All the on-screen computing in this movie is done on a Mac. The portable being cobbled together by the film makers is probably accurate.

A CD "draw?"

I think that was an 8 Track LOL!!

I laughed so hard when i saw that thing...and that super deluxe "paint" program that she was working in. oh man.....the early 90's.

Sheila ran off with Dennis and left Krampus all alone in dirty-ass Baltimore.

Whatever it was, it defo used Apple O/S (and I still laugh at '48k on disk')!

It was an IBM.

An IBM that looks like no other IBM ever produced AND uses Apple O/S?

Just kidding.

It's an Outbound Laptop circa 1991. It's a Mac portable, not made by Apple. A rarity, but it was way smaller and lighter than the Mac Portable offering at the time.

It was an Outbound Mac compatible luggable. See http://www.applefritter.com/node/3359 for pictures and review.

Thank you so much for the link: I think you have cracked it! What a funky machine.
