David was in the wrong

Granted how Dillon responded was always equally as horrid, what David did was totally wrong. Even though Sally expressed that her & Dillon weren't an item David still knew that Dillon liked her & should have respected that as his friend. You just don't do that to your friends.

I don't know about being wrong, but he certainly was stupid. He was so careful to conceal his secret, how does he not think getting involved in this lovers triangle wasn't gonna put a bullseye on his back and throw him into a negative light with Dillon and his friends. Sure, she is pretty and came on pretty strong, but David should have looked at the big picture. Fly under the radar the best he could, find another girl and get into Harvard. At that point...he could relax and let done guards down.

I agree - but remember that David was only 17 and Sally was probably much prettier than the girls he had met back home. Of course he was flattered by her attention - and, by the way, he did not even pursue her, she contacted him and asked him out. Hard to imagine a 17-year-old saying no to that.
