Plot hole
Let's pretend you hire someone to look after your nutjob uncle.
Let's pretend he instead lets your nutjob uncle fly him over two American states and the two of them crash your father's Thanksgiving dinner, leading to your uncle attacking your brother.
They would IMMEDIATELY call you at your in-law's home. IMMEDIATELY. In a world where everyone has a landline and some people have cell phones, they'd contact you right away. Your parents would contact you. Your own brother would definitely contact you, to tell you exactly what your charge and employee have been up to.
This is what the conversation would go like:
"You know that kid you hired to look after Frank? HE'S HERE. Yes, here. WITH FRANK! No, they aren't in New Hampshire! He did a hell of a job, let me tell you that! Hell of a job! How did he let himself get manipulated like that by an old blind man?! Boy, he screwed up! You want me to give you the phone so you can chew him out yourself? Wait, you are in New York, too, right? As soon as dinner is over, could you come here and fetch him and drive him back home? Yeah, I'm not trusting that kid to get him back to New Hampshire. Duh. That kid can't be trusted with HIMSELF! He's FIRED!"
And that would have been the end of their little escapade.
