Chris O' Donnell

He seems so angelic (in real life AND in this movie) but oh man, he had so many chances to show whatever acting chops he may have had, and well, he blew it.

It's on Showtime (again) and I just watched the scene on the plane where Al is describing women's body parts and O'Donnell had so many opportunities to react. He's this totally naive boy, and that was a chance to be horrified, amused, scared, etc. But he did none of that. He just kind of blankly listened. Come on Chris, you are in scene after scene w/ the world's greatest actor...couldn't you have risen to the challenge??

He was so sweet, and not terrible, but someone else in that role could have really shined.

Anyone else notice this?

After so many years, this is my first viewing of this film. I've only seen Chris O'Donnell in one other movie and I thought he did a great job here. He was just who he was supposed to be.

O'Donnell played Charlie a little too diffident, but I think was the point. You see his character come out when he stands up to the Colonel. The Colonel stands up for Charlie in the end because he sees what a decent guy Charlie is.

He's being directed by Martin Brest so blame him if you think he blew it. he can't just decide to act however he wants. Come on now think.

You said it first. Hah-hah

He was waaaaaaaay to whimpy and childish in this movie. But at the same time did not look 17 with his shaved beard. Fail on all fronts.

Its a good piece of casting and a good performance. Tge charater is supposed to be innocent and naive.

That being said, theres a big part of me that would have loved to have seen young Phil Seymour in the role. Seeing hin play off Pacini would be a joy.

Sorry, I had to laugh at your misspelling of Pacino as "Pacini". Yep, good old Al Pacini, one of the greatest actors of all time.

He's annoying as hell. Maybe its Brests fault.

I thought Chris O'Donnell was perfect casting, especially when I heard how many actors auditioned for the part. He was that perfect combination of "cuteness" and being naïve.

reply

He performed exactly as the director instructed him to.

I just watched it fully for maybe the first time in years and I'm blown away by how God-awful C.O. is in this...I saw it when it came out when I was probably 14 and I don't remember thinking this...but thinking how amazing Pacino was. He almost ruins it for me. Pacino saves it, and know I understand it not getting Best Picture. Plus the name Linda stinks...and I'm surprised how many posts are on here about this. Older perspective I guess...

And to think Leo auditioned...wow
