Bobby "flies away" in the Radio Flyer, and Tom Hanks talks of how he sent letters to his mom monthly of the different places he visited. This however, is not true, and you are given various hints, such as the turtle that he has as an adult, which Bobby supposedly took on his flights. His brother, you are left to guess, was beaten to death by The King, just before the cops arrived and saved Elijah Wood. It may also have been that his brother died in a crash from the Radio Flyer, and he sent the letters to his mom to make her feel better in times of depression. This also hints to his future as a writer, and how he came up with these ideas. He is seen talking to his two children about the incident, with the turtle that his brother is supposedly to still have.
