Give me a break. People need more than similar hair and eye color to look alike. Did Mike get a perm when he grew up? Did he have a face lift making his eyes shrink and the shape of them change? Tom Hanks seemed out-of-place and vaguely condescending as the narrator.

It doesn't really matter. Rarely do older versions of characters or relatives look alike in movies unless you cast multiple Culkin brothers. I thought Hanks was a good narrator, and even though he doesn't look anything like Elijah, It didn't bother me.

unless Tom Hanks is really 'Bobby' grown up and Mike is the virsion of himself that he wanted to remember and the 'Bobby' part died while the mike virsion stayed on. Which of course would mean that Tom Hanks characters name is Bob.

Bobby looks alot more like Tom Hanks.
I don't think Tom Hanks look like Bobby at all. But the fact that one of his sons looks like Bobby, does kind of suggest that the theory that Bobby didn't exist...doesn't work.
Kevin Costner played Elijah Wood's father in 'the war'- they look nothing alike. Costner has green eyes and blond hair, while Elijah has blue eyes and brown hair. I don't think film directors look that much into it- Hanks provides a great narrator, and that's what really matters.

The only good growing up casting was in Saving Private Ryan the dude looked exactly like matt damon
