Robert Altman's Masterpiece

Every great filmmaker has a masterpiece. This is his.

"THE PLAYER" is among my TOP 10 favorite films of all time. It's indeed a masterpiece.... but I also think "Nashville" and "M*A*S*H" are remarkable films. Altman's tribute at the Oscars was long overdue.

Nashville could easily be his masterpiece even though I usually give the nod to McCabe and Mrs. Miller. MASH is great but not quite at their level imo. Same with The Player.

"SilverKid" should change his username to "MasterpieceKid"

reply

I agree. He's made many great films. but this one just sticks out for me.

"Every great filmmaker has a masterpiece. This is his."

Every great movie-board has a dumb-ass with a line like this. This dumb-ass is SilverKid.

Have you seen how many times he (or she) has done this? Check the comments list:

I'm not sure if Silverkid thinks they're being profound, or if they just have an odd sense of humour... Either way, I like the idea of praising someone's 'masterpiece' by posting a completely generic, identikit message.

Silverkid considers these films to be masterpieces, but he can't be *rsed to actually write anything about them. Funny.

MyDeadDog: LOLing like never before! It's the funniest thing I've ever seen, and totally pointless!

I need to correct my previous statement:

Every great filmmaker has a masterpiece. This is his.

Every great movie-board has a dumb-ass with a line like this. This dumb-ass is ALWAYS SilverKid!

Where are ya SilverKid? Defend yourself!

reply

Short Cuts was remarakable not his best film but worth mentioning.

reply

I resent that statement. But you're entitled to it anyway. It was... an experiment at best, I think.

reply

I don't blame ya SilverKid. I'm sorry--I didn't mean to be so hard on ya. I take back everything that I said. I'm just glad that you finally came back (even if it took years)

Your "experiment" provided me with much laughter, and I can not thank you enough for that.

I've seen lots of Altman's work, and this is (by far) my favorite of his, so I actually agree with you that this is his "masterpiece".

So can you please forgive me? All you have to do is read my subject-line to know how I REALLY feel.

Great experiment! You should do it again some time!

reply

Hard to top Nashville. This comes close.

reply

have seen all his major movies and have to agree that together with McCabe & Mrs. Miller these are his best movies

so many movies, so little time

It's a great film, but could have benefited from better editing. The beginning sequences were too long and dragged a bit.
