Alternate versions?

Does anyone know if there are alternate versions of "Peter's Friends"? Perhaps a UK and a US version that were edited slightly differently? I have seen the film several times, but I do not recall ANY scenes with Richard Briers. Yet he is credited here as Peter's father. Anybody?

I'm American, and I haven't seen any version with the father in it. They make reference to him several times, but i honestly don't remember actually seeing him. Maybe there were some flashback scenes that got edited out for time.

...or photos? It's been ages since I've seen it, I'll watch for something next time....

Doesn't the opening scene take place at a dinner party at Peter's father's house? Maybe he's in that scene.

We saw the film on Sundance cable channel in the US, and Richard Briers is in there for a moment or two with the young (age 7) Peter.

The father is definily in the first scene, but I think the version I have may be different for the version I originally saw. In that version in the scene where Maggie reveals her feelings of love to Peter, she disrobes and is seen in full frontal nudity. In the version I have, she disrobes but only Peter sees her nudity. Has anyone else seen the full frontal version or is it a figment of my imagination?

reply

i've only seen the edited version, although i didnt know it was edited (emma thompson naked?- the cheek!)
the first scene with the dad was still in though, luckily, as otherwise, i would never have got to see hugh laurie in a pair of stockings and cancan skirt!

also, the version i saw had signing for death people on it (although this wasnt mentioned in the radio times!)

reply

'deaf' people i think you mean. theres no use signing to a corpse...

maybe i missed the beginning because i never saw his father or the cancan scene people keep mentioning. i saw it when it was shown on TV in the UK not long ago.

Aside: Dreadful saggy-bosomed shot of Em in The Tall Guy - but God bless her for having the guts. It's a perfectly hilarious (and unusually plausible) sex scene.

I'm writing all this down in my memoirs so if I grow up twisted & warped, the world will know why.
