They always are in British ensemble movies. The big strapping cowboy who ends up with the quirky roommate in Four Weddings and a Funeral. The clueless writer who falls in love with his hostess in Tamara Drewe. The US president that Hugh Grant's PM stands up to in Love Actually. It's pretty obvious that at least the Oxbridge educated Brits think Americans are all clueless, tactless and pointless. I take solace in the fact that they also look down on working class chavs, the French, the Germans, the Scottish, the Irish, those from the North of England, the Cornish, the Welsh, Australians, South Africans, New Zealanders, Italians, Greeks, Turks, Pakistanis, Indians, and pretty much any human who didn't attend the same schools they did & they also hate half of those they did go to school with.

Hard to get too insulted when you're in such large company.

Not hating on my own Country, but I really enjoy the laidbackness of Canadian tv and the Brit's version (most of the time they came out with it first) of popular tv shows.

Like villains and perverts in American movies are usually English

the one american woman

Wow, I'm realize I'm reading this nearly 3 years to the date later, but did you ever figure out that Rita Rudner, the comedienne/actress who plays the one american woman in question actually wrote that part for herself? Rudner and ger husband were the scriptwriters of this film!! Maybe you should've posed the question to her...? Several of her lines were sourced from her stand-up material -- like the one about "having no [E]qual"

I think crak, the only person you may have offended was Rudner herself.

reply

Well regardless of who wrote it, it was still a terrible performance
