Ghost of Christmas Past

I watching this film now for the 100th time, and I'm still scared and in awe and wonder of the the ghost of Christmas past.
I know she has been super imposed, but what is she? Her movements seem too smooth to be a muppet, but I dont think she's totally CGI. Maybe a combination of the two, a featureless muppet with facial expressions added in post production?
Anyone know, or have 'a making of'.

I agree! Though she's a departure from Dickens' description of the Ghost appearing as a bright candle, her wispiness gives her a cool ethereal quality that works very well. In the Unwrapping a New Holiday Classic featurette, they show her as a rod puppet shot in a tank of water to make her clothing float around. Director Brian Henson says they tried using oil first, but ended up using water. Muppets usually have a hand inside them that moves their mouths, but some (like Rizzo and Pepe) have to be controlled from the outside with a rod.

Ah yes, its a very good effect to film her underwater. Shows how creative these guys are. One of the most visually interesting characters to look at in film history without use of CGI.
