The Muppet Christmas Carol will be released on Nov 06 this year, and includes both cuts of the movie. i just hope that When Love Is Gone is in original widescreen!!!

reply

Region 1 or 2?

reply

so far, a US release has only been announced - but it will hopefully be region free.

Once again, it's the cut version of the film without the integral scene and song "When Love is Gone" in which Scrooge recognises where he made his mistake. I hope the Di$ney execs get visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past.

reply

So what happened to it having both a cut and uncut version included? :/

reply

Disney!

reply

DISNEEEEEEEYYYYYY!!!!!! >:O

reply

Just got the Blu-Ray and no "when love is gone" song. Very sad :(

reply

I will never EVER buy that movie in any format until they make a version that has that scene included. To remove such a pivotal moment in the movie is borderline criminal!

reply

You do know that that song wasn't any the original cut of the film don't you? Besides, it isn't pivotal at all. If anything it slows the movie down and quite frankly the song doesn't even fit with any of the other songs.

reply

I DISTINCTLY remember seeing that song in the theater.

and what do you mean it isn't pivotal?

watch Micheal Caine's performance during that scene. It's excellent.

reply

It isn't pivotal because the mere act of Belle saying "you used to" and then walking away sends the message perfectly clear and solidifies why Scrooge is the way he is. You don't need some long drawn out song to show them. It is a much colder act the way it is shown in the theatrical release than with the song.

reply

I'm not sure how you can say the song is not pivotal?

I suppose you might be right in the sense that it's not the song itself but the scene with Michael Caine that is pivotal. If you've never seen it (as it existed in the original 1992 version), you are missing a wonderful piece of acting by Caine.

I detest the song and dislike the singer, but Michael Caine can move me to tears in spite of it.

reply

I replied to the poster above you but I will expand on one thing here. The scene as it was shown in the theater and Scrooges weeping after she just walks away is very powerful. It's as if he is reacting to the regret of not going after her without actually saying anything.

reply

Only the 50th Anniversary Edition DVD has the 89 minute extended scene and its on Full Screen format.

The movie is not the same without that song.

... End of line.

reply

No way that scene can be 89 minutes! That's almost an hour and a half! I think you mean 89 seconds.

reply

No, no . . . not the scene, the version!

reply

Does the recently released DVD version have it? i.e. the one that is the 20th anniversary but not the bluray?

"The cold never bothered me anyway!"

reply

Since it's the same cut that played in theaters, it is less deplorable.......I love the muppets and really wanted this movie on blu ray for the holidays (annual repeated viewings around Christmas) so I have to shrug my shoulders on this one. It's not worth me NOT buying/watching.
