No wonder this is banned in the UK

Its that bit where a toddler is playing at the end of a diving board and "Mikey" is shaking it and trying to toss her into a swimming pool. The wee girl looked scared *beep* That skit looked nasty. Its on the trailer.

No wonder it got itself banned.

There is no reason to ban this film just because the two evil brats who kill James Bulger tried to blame films for their depraved actions. The majority of children on this planet have watched horror flicks yet they don't go around abducting, torturing then murdering toddlers.

I saw Mikey quite a few times, but I haven't seen it in quite awhile.I think the last time I saw it was back in 2000 I think. It's been awhile. But anyway, I like that movie. It's crazy.LOL

I saw this movie when I was a kid and the part where he drowns his sister is deeply disturbing, but it didn't turn me into a murderer.

He throws a toaster or something in there and gives her the shock of her life is what he does. THAT s#!t was NASTY. And where he drowns his sister and beats his dad...Holy Hell...I deff remember this movie. I watched it when I was 10 and I've never wanted to adopt ever since then.

reply

that scene IS pretty nasty. dirty and nasty.

reply

This film is even more nasty than "The Good Son" (1993), with Macaulay Culkin,
which was banned in the UK from 1993-95 because of the Jamie Bulger tragedy.

reply

yeah that was the kid that got tortured and murdered by two young kids right. they kidnapped him from the mall or something.

reply

oh man thats so nasty i cant believe the nastiness of it. way up there on the nasty scale

reply

Good Son was a better movie IMHO. Was a more thoughtful more realistic (not realistic, just moreso than Mikey) look at a child murderer.

Every Movie that is not Rated "G" is banned in the UK

It's ironic to think this film and 'The Good Son' were banned for so many years yet there are far more gruesome episodes of 'Criminal Minds' and 'Law and Order' aired at 9pm nowadays.

I know this is a late reply, but that's pretty rich coming from an American (I gather you're American, I can only gather). The US is extremely uptight about bad language and sex, swear once on a US network and you'll never be seen on television again, swear on UK television they'll simply apologise to the viewer and that's the last you'll see of it.

The MPAA are prudes in the extreme, 'Blue Valentine' was rated NC-17 and only received a 15 rating in the UK! One can only hope you're a troll, because the UK is very lenient nowadays. Barely anything gets banned anymore, even the extreme stuff.

It's a great GP.

Clark's destiny = Superman, Lex Luthor & Lois Lane.

That's certainly the most horrifying part of this film. Personally, apart from that, I saw nothing in this film that warrents non-classification.

In fact, if there was any reason to stop this film showing in the UK now, it would be because the film is so dire. It was like watching paint dry, only less exciting!

Jesse was fit though!

never seen this but remember trailers for it back in '92. this was the kid who played in blank check.

reply

i know you made this a long time ago but your making of a topic when having clearly made no attempt to actually find out anything what so ever, this movie was pulled from the shelves because a similar case of a child killer, Jamie Bulger, was happening around the time of the movies release.

reply

Jamie Bulger wasn't a child killer. He was a toddler killed by two ten-year-olds. Just to clarify.

reply

i can't tell if you are being serious or not

reply

"similar case of a child killer, Jamie Bulger, was happening around the time of the movies release."
The way you wrote it made it sound like you got the names mixed up and named Jamie as the killer.

reply

You mean liberal ass UK banned or censored another movie? It's too offensive it might brainwash our children to be like Mikey. Oh please, I've seen worse movies then this as a kid and I'm pretty sure I'm fine since I have yet to kill anyone.

reply

If the UK banned Mikey for that exact reason, than they'd have to ban a whole bunch of other movies as well. I mean, yes...the scene is pretty messed up, seeing that a young child drowns in a swimming pool. But still, that's no reason to ban the film. Try watching Funny Games, where a little boy gets shot with a rifle as his parents are forced to watch. Or Schindler's List, when a little boy gets shot by a Nazi officer. Or even Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom...where a bunch of teenagers a brutally sodomized and murdered. Trust me, compared to a bunch of other films that contained scenes where children / young people are murdered...it can get a lot worse.
