Bombays Protege

I know Charlie and Gordon are the two central, but is the film trying to put across that Charlie is like a young Gordon and Gordon was moulding him, I could be wrong there, if it was the case then I would've thought Adam would have been closer to what Gordon was like as a kid.

Charlie wasn't the best player on the team, far from it, but he was a brilliant leader, he could rally the team when needed, but he was nowhere near halfway to being as good as Bombay ever was

I agree. i didnt like Charlie's character. he was okay in the first a bit anoying, a Mamma's boy or so i thought his mom was every where he was. And how he was chosen for the penelty shot. i would have chosen Jesse, Guy or Connie

in D2 i thought he was trying to suck up to Bombay by giving up his spot for Adam so he could coach.

In D3 oh boy i didnt like his he was so arrogant.
What was it in the movies they couldnt win as Team USA or being Warriors they always had to be ducks.
man i would be so proud to get a chance like that and represent my country i wouldnt want to back to being a duck.

those are my takes
and yes i would have liked to see Adam stay in the game and get the penlelty shot and prove to reilly he was better than them.
and i would have liked to see his character deloped more. alos more of him in D3 and more of the varsity team. I loved Varsity in D3

I liked Charlie the best in this movie primarily for that scene in the diner that was truly a display of good acting he sounded a little feminine but he was effective imo. I think Charlie was similar to Gordon in being a leader but Adam banks is more like Gordon when it comes to hockey.

I could see young Gordon being a lot like Adam too: very talented, a Hawk, Reilly's protegee, sensitive, wasn't Gordon from a rich family like Adam?

Reilly even implies it: "I've got a kid named Banks that might go all the way. He's not as good as you are. But he wants it more."

I wonder Gordon recognized the similarity and that was at least partially why he stole Adam from the Hawks. He was afraid that Adam would meet the same fate that he did and was determined to protect him from Reilly. He may not have even conciously realized it though.

i was just about to post the same thing.

it seemed weird that this was his protege, charlie didnt have a lot of talent, bombay liked his mother sexually though, so maybe he wasnt thinking clearly when it came to the kid.

perhaps they choose charlie as his protege because it showed how bombay was changing (a win at all costs lawyer to caring about the kids).

anyways for the final penalty shot, banks was out injured remember so he couldnt have taken it, likely this was worked into the plot so charlie would be chosen since it would have been pretty unrealistic not to have banks take it.
