They should have played the Hawks in the 1st round, not the championship

Okay everyone knows that the way the tournaments are set up, in the first one the top seeded team takes on the bottom seeded team. The number 2 team takes on the next to last seeded team and so on and so on. Well if you look at the standings when Han's shows them to Gordon he says that everyone but the last two teams are in the playoffs. The Pathers got the measles and forfeited the season. And if the Ducks beat the Huskies, they would make the playoffs. So when the Ducks beat the Huskies on the last game of the regular season, that means they won the last spot in the playoffs.

But shouldn't they have taken on the Hawks in the opening round of the playoffs rather than the championship game? The Hawks were the first place team, and the Ducks were the last place team in the playoffs. Instead they play the Hornets in the first round, then the Cardinals in the semi-finals, and then the Hawks. Think they messed up there

im not shure maybe they changed it after the first round or something

It is also possible the Hawks may have gotten a bye all the way to the finals.

In a lot of youth leagues they never have the top seed face the bottom. They often have the two top teams play each other, and the two bottom teams, etc.

You're right, what we see from the movie they should have played the Hawks the first round, Bombay even mentions this possibility to Hans when he sees the standings. The only thing I've ever been able to come up with is that the Hawks ended up having to forfeit some games because of having an ineligible player (Adam Banks) playing for them. They give up even a couple of wins the Hawks could have slipped to #2 and been on the opposite side of the bracket as the Ducks.

You also have to take into account that it was a state tournament. Being that it is a state tournament makes the idea that two teams from the same city would be playing for the title.

Bombay vs Reilly

Pee Wee Match up
By John F Link

Reily's Hawks carry the best record of any
team in the division II state tourney.Thier
record also included some impressive wins over
teams that ended up as strong seeds in the
Division I group. After their 4-1 Semi-Final
win behind Reilly exiciting coaching they are
favoured to finish off by sweeping the Ducks-off
of the ice tonight.
On the way to the finnish the Hawks knocked
off frist the flames and the in a close one at the '
Arena they just did beat the arch rivals the Jets 2-
1 thriller.
Facing off against the strongly favoured Hawkswill
will be completely unknown Ducks.They
have been this years miracle kids after a dismal
string of hammering defeats at the seasons

This was the article shown after the ducks won the semi finals against the cardnils

its a disney movie, it wouldnt be very good finishing 50mins into the film or whatever after they play the hawks now would it? but i get ya. bombay oreilly big showdown whatever thing at the end. yeah.

Thanks for sharing this, somehow makes everything that happens more insane when you consider that Reilly acts as if the Hawks are the best team in the world, when in actually they are just the top of Division II and can sort of hang with the big dogs in Division I.

Also I like that allusion to West Side Story with their rivals being the Jets

reply

i personally would have liked them to play the hawks in the first round and thats how the movie ended, with a big upset that no one saw coming.

seems a bit ridiculous they won 3 straight games to win a title.

reply

naw, I wanted to see them win the Championship. I mean, they really didn't stand a chance. Even the team with the Chicken Pox could have beaten them.

I thought maybe there were some forfeiting of victories the Hawks had to do for "illegally" having Adam Banks on their team. It would just need to be enough games to drop them to #2 and they would be in the opposite bracket as the Ducks.
