Legal maneuvering in court?

I haven't seen the movie since the early 90's and can't find it on DVD around here. But I seem to remember there was a sort of *beep* or unethical legal motion Bombay used in court to thwart or at least overrule the judge. I think it had to do with precedent. Can anybody recall what exactly happened?

He told the judge that the judges ruling was turned over in another case. The judge was about to make the same ruling that got overturned and Bombay in other words said don't make that same mistake.
