Why is everyone saying that Bombay and Casey had a relationship?

If I recall, Bombay and Casey (Charlie's mom) went on ONE date. It ended with one kiss. Then they never went out again. Then Bombay left to to play for a minor hockey league and Casey got remarried to someone else.

Would you even call this a "relationship"? Just one date and that's it? Why is everyone saying that Bombay let Charlie take the penalty because he was having sex with his mom? I highly doubt they had sex, and I highly doubt they were even boyfriend and girlfriend.

Besides, if Bombay and Casey were really boyfriend and girlfriend, and they broke up, wouldn't it be awkward for Bombay to continue to have a close relationship with Charlie? It would've been a lot more realistic if Bombay and Casey only went out once and decided not to start a relationship... and so it wasn't weird with Bombay and Charlie.

Thoughts on Bombay and Casey? Were they ever boyfriend and girlfriend?

I don't think they took it any further. Remember the conversation they had at the ice sculpture festival? Casey didn't want things to get serious between them unless Gordon was willing to take on the role of father figure to Charlie more seriously. Casey was already concerned that he and Charlie were getting too close and that if Gordon were to leave suddenly it would be too hard on him.

So I think that's where Gordon decided to back off and just be the hockey coach, but he gave Charlie the chance to win the game and gave Casey that goodbye kiss just to leave things on a happy note.

I think he gave the shot to Charlie because winning was basically captain of the ducks.

But if you want to look into it further, Gordon no longer cared that much about winning, he wanted his kids to have fun. He believed in Charlie and was putting him in a spot he knew he could succeed.
