Current condition?
Does anyone know what Lorenzo's condition is today? Since it is 13 years since the movie ended.

shareAs of May 2005 Lorenzo is almost totally paralyzed, but still alive. Michaela died in 2000 of lung cancer.
shareIs he able to do any further movements, sounds or gestures besides the YES and NO he developed, as we learned from the movie?
From The Myelin Project (www.myelin.org):
"Lorenzo celebrated his 27th birthday on May 29, 2005. He is deprived of most of his functions, but his mind is still there. Lorenzo communicates through blinking his eyelids to say no and wiggling his fingers to say yes. He enjoys music and being read to. Lorenzo will not regain his speech or full mobility until we are successful with remyelination."
I saw this film in the theaters when it came out and bought the soundtrack for one piece of music heard in the film, Adagio for Strings. I saw it again just now and turned on my computer to see what happened to Lorenzo Michael Murphy Odone. Lorenzo is still alive, his mother, Michaela, passed away in 2000. What a shame.
How ironic it is , now im not sure if the real augusto smoked, but i know for sure that Nick Nolte smoked in the movie wow! The scene where the african freind (i forget his name) turned lorenzo's suction equipment off, and they call augusto to come in he leaves his " smoking tree " and there had to be like 2 pcks worth of butts there! My point being, define irony augusto smokes like that and lives and michaela who never smoked as far as i know dies of lung cancer?
shareLife can be cruel, this family sure knows it. A truly amazing story though, makes all of our problems seem not so bad.
"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro."

Something good that did come from this movie is the raised awareness of Lorenzo's Oil and using it as a possible treatment for ALD.
The BBC just reported on a family where ALD has hit 3 of the family's sons and they are looking at utilizing the same Lorenzo's Oil as a possible treatment.
