Marla under-utilized?

I always felt like Marla didn't get enough moments as a key member of the team or the team's success. We are introduced to her as an absolutely exceptional hitter. I feel like she was set up as one of our "main gals" along with Mae and Dorris. But she ends up merely being part of a joke... the bit about her being in finishing school and then her in the news short and then the signal argument between Jimmy and Dottie. She does get the hit in that moment, but that's all we really see of her contributing. And then she's the butt of the joke again at the club, after which the film basically gets rid of her by marrying her off and she is not present during the World Series. I feel like her character was ultimately wasted and could've used a few more moments.
