Besides the title, does this have anything else in common with the original story?

I read it years ago, but from what I recall, it was about some weird pagan god worshipping guy who mowed lawns. I don't remember anything about a mentally deficient guy made smarter by virtual reality. But like I said, it's been a while and may have forgotten.

The original was a straight up slasher where the lawnmower man used the houseowner as sacrifice for pagan god. King actually sued the studio to have his name removed from this film.

They both have lawnmowers in them and…erm….thats it.

reply

And don't forget they both have a man too!

reply

Oh, and grass.

Well that settles it! It is an accurate representation of the original work.

reply

Yes, yes, most certainly, yes.

There's one vague reference to the original short story in the movie. It's been a long time since I've seen it, but I think it was something like detectives at a crime scene where there was a decapitated body and it was supposedly decapitated by a lawnmower.

I really like the original short story.

I've reread it since my original post and it is a very interesting story.

It is. It's been a long time since I've read it, but what I remember liking was the way it hinted at this unseen cult or power structure. I like stories that give a glimpse into things like that without revealing too much. The poor guy just needed his lawn cut, gets some service, makes the wrong comment that makes them think he's one of them, and that seals his fate.

God Bless The Grass!!
