Did they re-edit the music score?

The music score from the original cut was different than the version being shown on tv as of late.

Different in that it seems more orchestrated with less of the raw instrumental sound.

I'm not sure, but I do have the soundtrack CD and the version they air on tv seems more..."highly produced" rather than that original visceral raw sound.

There have been several changes made to it since its original release. The theatrical cut is only available on VHS as far as I know, and they did make changes to the music in the other versions of it :( I think the original is the best and it really makes me sad I can't own this movie on DVD or Bluray!

@Dorsia

You can get the theatrical cut on disc, but it's only available on region 2 DVD, so you need a region-less DVD player to play it on. I got such a DVD player on Amazon for less then $40 and then bought a region 2 LOTM DVD from eBay for less then $10.

Now I have all 3 versions of the film on disc:

Theatrical Cut - Region 2 DVD
Director's Expanded Edition - Region 1 DVD
Director's Definitive Cut - Bluray

I later found out the same (that it is available, just outside the US). I don't think I'll be buying a region free DVD player though :( I ended up buying the Direction's Definitive Cut Bluray tonight after reading that it's closest to the theatrical cut as you can get here.... I just hope they decide to release the theatrical cut in the US soon because there is such a demand for it! I have seen so many comments everywhere from people hoping for the same.

The part about the theatrical cut being only available on Region 2 DVD is incorrect. It has been available in Australia as a Region 4 DVD with isolated film score as well.
