This movie starts off brilliantly

When the movie started i thought it was going to be a one fun/funny/cool/dark street movie. But as it went further and further it tried to get somewhere but couldnt keep up with the coolness.

The film is stamped hard with the look, sound and feel of the early 90's (an excellent era of those "urban" films if you ask me), colorful clothing, an excellent hip-hop soundtrack and murky neon lighting. If this is up your alley.

I loved it but it wasnt as good towards the end.

Anyone else agree?

I also loved it how it wasnt one of those crappy gangsta *beep* yada yada living in the hood etc etc baggy clothing i bust a cap in yo ass movies. It was real cultured.

This movie is great... until Tupac starts killing everyone.

You must understand at the time for people who are actually old enough to have seen it in theaters the BIG u-turn that the film takes is part of its power. At the time most "HOOD" films didn't really have FRIENDS turning on one another. Maybe disagreements but never the kind of betrayal you saw in Juice as Bishop loses it and starts killing friends and enemies equally. Their warm relationship and friendship is what makes the 2nd half of the film so powerful. Trust me! Everybody in the theater gasped at the scene when Bishop shot Raheem, it TOTALLY caught everybody off guard, and Tupac plays Bishops downward spiral into insanity perfectly, such a shame he died so young the man was a talented actor.

It's definitely a real "gear-shift" movie and I liked the first part before Tupac flips out a lot more, but the latter part wasn't that bad.

Uneven or not, it's still one of my favorite 90s hood movies. A lot of them even though good were a bit predictable and had this sameness about the, while Juice was a pretty unique case.

i JUST watched this movie and was in complete shock when the movie took that turn.i was enjoying the movie but when that happened i was GLUED to the tv and my heart was racing with what was going to happen next. like a previous poster said...the fact that they built their friendship up so much made everything happening so much more powerful.

I thought I was the only one. I saw the entire movie of course when it first came out, but the movie took such a dark turn, I didn't watch any of it after Raheem died for years. You loved the 'Wrecking Crew!' and to kill your best friend, Steel crying, the gun to Q's head...it was just too much. I was around 14 at the time. I can vagely remember how many times I've seen it to the point of Tupac saying 'I don't give a *beep* Just yesterday, I looked in Tupac's eyes when he told Q 'You da past bro.' What talent he possessed. You really believed he was a cold, hard killer. His performance was so good, it runied his life. People loved the movie so much, he adapted that character, somewhat to his own life. Bad thing to do...but it was still tough to watch the second half. But I guess I'm cool now. I just look at at as the 'Talent' part of the movie, cause it all seemed so real. Watching Bishop come out of the dark from behind. Whew!

Tupac played the character perfectly. This movie was made by people who really understood the subject matter. The characters all felt real and and Bishop's character development was incredibly believable.

And you know it's true because SpaceMonkey -> said so.

I love that this movie is like a psychological thriller towards the end and not just a "hood" movie. it actually has a real theatrical plot that wasn't in thses type of movies.

It turned into a horror movie for the 2nd half, lol.

Its also a 'hood-ready' riff on 30s-40's gangster films like the one Bishop emulates (They're watching Cagney in "White Heat"). The plot is very similar to so many of them where one friend is on his way to being legitimately successful (Q), while the other can't ignore the tug of the streets and demands unearned respect (Bishop).

When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

Just saw this yesterday and feel exactly the same way. I was really into this movie until the robbery scene and it just went downhill after that.

It felt like a mob type movie where even though you were friends your whole life they can turn on you.
