My Favorite Film of All-Time

I saw this film when I was around 12 or 13. I didn't know why but I knew there was something special about it. Thank you, Merchant Ivory, for creating this masterpiece and for giving the adequate preparations that the novel truly deserved.

I agree - I love this novel and film. "Where Angels Fear To Tread" is magnificent, too.

I know...I love this film more and more every time I see it. I didn't see it when it first came out. I've only rather recently become a complete Emma Thompson fanatic (in the greatest sense of the word), and have been collecting her films. I've actually had this DVD for a few years, even though my fascination in her work specificially has been only as recently as since Last Chance Harvey came out. I just LOVE the majesty, the great story, the superb acting, the beautiful score, the wonderful scenery....of all the Merchant Ivory films. But this one and Remains of the Day are my two favorites. They're absolute gems, and I actually came on imdb just now to look up James Ivory specifically...I wonder if he is still working at all with Jahbvala and will be collaborating with her anymore...I was so sorry when Ismail Merchant died.
