Anthony Hopkins As Mr. Wilcox

I Love This movie very Much, But the only thing that I didn't like in it was Anthony Hopkins Performance It wasnt for sure what I would Expect from Him, I Felt Like If He was Over Acting His Role, Specially that in some scenes he do some very bad performances that makes him Funny, Like when He was at Margrets Home and saw Leonard Bast Leaving then when Margaret Tells him his not the Type He Thinks Hopkins Laugh in a very idiotic way like if he is Moking Margaret, Also After he Marries Margaret the next day and He sees the book He also Laughs in a very strange way wich is obvious as Bad Acting that he even makes the Scene Very Very Funny, He Laughs Like a Pig.
Its a shame to see such a great Actor like Him Doing a very Bad Performance like This Specially in A Teriffic Film. Thank God that he returned again to good Acting The Next year when he gave one of his best performances in the Brilliant Film The Remains Of The Day
Also The Scene in wich Charles was Asking Tibby If Helen ever mentioned the name of a man infront of him, because he wanted to know who made her pregnant, is a very Funny Scene The Actor who Played Charles Wilcox was Giving one of the baddest OverActed Performances Ever, that He even made this scene Hilarious to me.
Ofcourse I still love this movie very much, Actually these scenes give it a special Taste Sometimes, To find Such a Funny Little Scenes in a Such a Beautiful Drama.
I am Just Posting This Because I find it strange from a lot of people here Posting Or Saying in thier Reviews That Anthony Hopkins gives a great Performance in this Film, While Personaly I Think This is one of the worst Performances in his Whole Carear.

I disagree that Hopkins does a bad job in the role ... in fact, I think he's great. You are not supposed to like his character. Henry is an uncaring, harsh hearted man who can't bear to look at Margaret when she finds out about his sordid past and has to request her forgiveness. He isn't capable of true laughter, so he sort of puts it on, hence the idiocy of it ..

Anthony Hopkins did not give a bad performance. If you reasearch the mannerisms of that era you will find that he was spot on. You need to watch and analyse more heritage films.

Wow, if you don't like Hopkins in Howard's End, then what do you think of his performance in The Remains Of The Day?

reply

He wasn't 'hard-hearted' with regards to his own family; witness his reaction to Charles' possible manslaughter charge. His performance is pure Hopkins, it's wonderful.

Don't disguise your opinion behind a remark that insipid.
How does one "research" mannerisms? How much "research" have you done?

Hopkins was perfect in the role. As he always is in every one of his roles.

The fact that I ( and many others, I suppose ) wanted to strangle him at times, is proof that his acting was spot on.
