Would Kevin be on the news?

A missing child whose negligent parents abandon him two years in a row is lost somewhere in the United States and it seems to be tied to two fugitives who previously had attempted to burglarize the neighborhood of said missing child at the time the child was previously left home alone. Wouldn’t the story be all over the news and there would be a worldwide manhunt for Kevin?

Nowadays for sure. Because of internet and the 24/7 cycle. That said, I feel like cell phones would make it harder for these movies to happen today. In the original, the phone lines being out was a major plot point of them not being able to get in touch. In this one, simply because Kevin went off-radar intentionally. And now it'd be quicker to get a credit card alert out too. But this was in a time before it was easy to have such a long reach thanks to the internet. The crimes and happenings you heard about were more local, unless they were huge, and even then it would take longer for news stories to travel. But now everything is recorded with cell phones. For example, the whole Harambe incident probably would've received less attention had it happened 30 years earlier. Also this was in a time before things such as Amber Alert existed.

I'm kind of confused by this question... "worldwide manhunt" for Kevin implies youre saying this would be before he is found... so why would he be tied to these criminals at all? He intentionally arranged to foil the bandits last time so he wouldn't be linked to them at all by luring them into a neighbor's house. It doesn't really seem like he told anyone about them, the only person who would know is old man Marley. And then in NYC, there is no connection between two escaped cons and a missing kid at all. The public doesn't know that Harry and Marv also happen to be in NYC. There is exactly zero connection to Kevin and the bandits that anyone would be able to make any news story out of.
