The most unrealistic thing about this movie
No married woman in her right mind would ever hire a nanny who looks like Rebecca De Mornay & be okay with leaving her alone with her husband for extended periods while she's not there.
shareNo married woman in her right mind would ever hire a nanny who looks like Rebecca De Mornay & be okay with leaving her alone with her husband for extended periods while she's not there.
shareIt's even more unrealistic that they didn't go through checking who she was or seeing if there were other applicants. But I doubt that her possibly making advances towards her husband (which she did) was on Claire's mind. She had zero idea that the lady she hired was jealous of not having a husband while she did.
shareHer motivations aside, the point is that it's unlikely that any wife would hire an extremely attractive woman to be her nanny, to be often left alone with her husband without a worry.
shareI introduce you to Christine Ouzounian, the attractive, blonde nanny of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner and allegedly the cause of their split.
shareThis proves Threadkiller's point.
shareActually, it disproves it.
shareNo, it proves it
shareIn terms of whether a married woman would hire an attractive nanny and leave her alone with her husband, it disproves it since Jennifer Garner did hire such a woman.
Although if we include "who looks like Rebecca De Mornay", then it is an inappropriate example since Christine Ouzounian doesn't look anywhere near as hot as De Mornay. Or as hot as Garner.
It may prove that it is not a wise idea to do so.
She conned them.
shareIn the real world no matter how presentable she made herself, they would have wanted to look into her past credentials and employment history. It's the same thing with Julia Roberts in Sleeping with the Enemy renting a new house after she manages to flee from her husband and heads to Iowa. She just manages to get the house without ANY references or past history. Mrs. Mott wouldn't have been able to hide all that, not to mention it's actually how Claire managed to find out who she really was in the first place. Therefore, the movie wouldn't have been able to go the way it did.
Claire had no real interest in her kids. So the first smiling one who came along was good enough for her.
shareYou're right that she was more concerned about her greenhouse... but what about Michael? He foolishly went along with his wife in hiring her. In the real world, someone looking for a worker would never allow applicants to take the job without actually looking into who they are and their history. Like I said, it's pretty much just a plot device.
shareBack then, thins were different. I remember going for a baby-sitting job as a teen. I went to the house for the "interview" and the mother was on the phone. She told the person, "I have to go, the girl who is going to be my baby-sitter is here." She told me the hours and pay, what I needed to do. That was it. I never met her before that day. From the phone conversation when I called about the job, she only knew I was in high school and looking for a summer job.
The only thing we did talk about was that she wanted me in the pool when the kids were in it, to be able to watch them more closely.
Just about everything was unrealistic in this movie, but it was still entertaining. And I enjoy looking at the gorgeous house and garden.
shareClaire had no real interest in her family, or being a real mother, so it seemed fitting that she would just hire someone so she could go do her own little things. She never wanted to listen to what her daughter tried to tell her. The nursery looked very sterile and clinical. She even said she would be only a few feet away but would have "no time" for her newborn because she would be busy with her hobby. She made no effort to join her husband, daughter and the nanny when they were playing the game.
So, just hiring someone and being done suited Claire.
and not bimbo attractive. Anyone can fight that off.
