It was filmed in Southern Oregon.
shareOakland, Oregon, to be exact. about 45 minutes south of Eugene, town of 850 people. Was there when it was filmed!
shareAnd some was filmed in Monroe, OR. A small town of 500...they used several of the antique Fire-trucks from there and the surrounding little(er) towns and a lot of extras in one of the town destruction...
The movie sucked. Period.
I did a internship as a scenic artist on this movie, so maybe I can help.
Yes, some of the movie was filmed in Oakland, OR, and yes some of the movie was allso filmed in Monroe, OR (my hometown). But there was also filming in Eugene, OR in the Shelton-McMurphy house (the inn) and other historical homes in the area. They also filmed on some of the local roads (Greenhill and Prarie Rd) between Eugene and Junction City, OR. Many location interiors were created in a warehouse on 5th street in Eugene, OR. They did a great job of editing, so unless you know where they were filming, it does look very similar to Vermont.
A fun piece of trivia-
The crew needed to set up the "welcome to town" sign, and came back to the warehouse that was being used as the "stuido" and proudly reported that they had set it up in a patch of bushes that were so pretty, it had green and red leaves that were shaped like oak leaves!
Well, what they didn't know was they had set up their sign in a patch of poison oak, and if you don't know, its very similar to poison ivy in that you itch like a son-of-a-gun after you walk throught it.
They were miserable for 2 weeks.
