A needless retread of a semi-classic. Must have been made to remind peeps how much better the original Mothra was. And of course to give sagging Japanese economy a tiny jolt. Ridiculous first 20 minutes ripoff of "Indiana Jones and Temple of Doom" becomes The Temple of Dumb instead. Hilariously awful English dubbing with tons of grunts and needless gutter trash proclamations. All in all, harmless fun for kids and those with IQ's under 63.

I read in some fan magazine somewhere that most of this was taken -- frequently straight off the pages -- from Look Homeward, Angel: A Story of the Buried Life, a 1929 novel by Thomas Wolfe (1900-1938).

I would be interested in seeing how it was adapted. According to the article, the Godzilla character is a thinly veiled Eugene Gant. Except for the thunder lizard part.

The genius of science-fiction is that it can often times bring classic works to a mass audience.

Only a person with great ambition can find such a role. Few there be that would march into the offices of the King Brothers and demand the part of Gorgo and get it (I looked it up).

Consider that the very fine actor, Lloyd Bridges, fought to get the part of Godzilla for the American underwater scenes, but was turned down flat. Makes no sense to me but history tells the tale better than I do.

I, like millions of Americans, look forward to the day I can see with my own unrested eyes Gojira vs. Mosura. Until then I will only watch re-runs of light comedy programs like the delightful Three's Company and popular game shows such as Wheel of Fortune starring Pat Sajak and Vanna White. Check your local listings.

Five out of Ten eye doctors will tell you, "Feasting of the eyes should be reserved for special occasions!"

But if every eye doctor was laid down end to end, what a sight that would make!

Oooops! I digress!
