there are quite a few similarities between this story and that of captain america. j.j. abrams has to be aware of this...

Total agree with you! JJ Abrams is an hack, as much as i loved this movie much because Gibson & Jamie Lee are two of my all time favorites & delivered well, this movie it's just the Captain America story without the super-hero factor but instead a romantic comedy/drama.

The only similarity I see is the main characters are cryogenically frozen. The circumstances around it are completely different (an accident with Captain America and voluntary with Mel Gibson) and Mel Gibson isn't a superhero soldier.
