He's pretty famous now. Not as in household-word-paparazzi-following-around celebrity famous, but he's well-known because, as you say, he's been around for a while and has been in some high-profile movies. He works steadily and gets good reviews, but is brave enough to do oddball roles as well (the jerky Ryan in the TV show Wilfred, the serial killer Frank in Maniac, and psychopath Kevin in Sin City). He's great to watch on talk shows, too: funny, intelligent, and able to play along with whatever the host throws at him. Everyone who knows him says that he's a really nice guy. I hope he never becomes famous enough to lose any of that.
The first things I ever saw him in were Flipper and Deep Impact, when he was a teen, so it's a little strange for me to see him so young. Worse, he's a contemporary of my own fine self, so when he was that young, so was I!
