OK History

For some odd reason, we're watching this movie in my Oklahoma History class. I know the two of them go to Oklahoma territory to participate in the Land Run, but seriously.. What other reasons are there to watch this movie?

Plus, there's a tiny bit of nudity (to most ninth grade minds, it's true).

I'm not saying this movie is bad or historically inaccurate, I'm just saying.. Should we be watching this in my OK History class? Bah.

Side note: Colm Meany is in this movie! <3

We juut finished watching this movie in our History class in TX. The teacher made us write an essay about how this movie showed the events in U.S. History, etc. Our teacher however turned the t.v. around when the bad parts were coming on, so i think it is appropriate for school, as long as you take the correct precautions when showing it to high school students. By the way this is and 11th grade U.S. History class if it makes any difference.

really thats odd crap are they ever going to let us see those parts i am actually going into 11th grade and the teachers arent letting us see anything What i mean is if were in 11th grade we should be able watch this. Im not saying i want to its just that I mean is we are going to see that many times in our life for example sex its a part of life people have to stop making it sound like it doesnt happen lol especially at school. I swear Its going to get old when im a senior and they are doing that. was it nude cause i only saw probably 1 and a half of itso i may have skipped those parts. I swear i am going to crack up if its like they show some ones behind. I swear onlylike 7th graders and younger would laugh about that. well if its that then thats dumb.

LOL... at first I thought you were saying that the history represented was "OK"...

Personally, I don't understand why you'd guys watch this movie in your state's history class for the last 15 some-odd minutes of the movie. Well... I guess it could go to show how people from around the world came to the States to participate in this spectacle that was seemingly too good to be true - but what I got from it is how difficult is was for immigrants who came from Ireland to live in the U.S. That, for some reason, we treated them poorly... *shrug*

Overall though, yeah - it was for two people who really wanted to acquire their own land and start anew... and... modern... in Oklahoma.

Did you not agree with your entire class being forced to watch it?

I watched the land run bit when I was in 5th grade and this movie was brand new. That's the only part I can understand being shown because that's the only part that has to do with the general history of Oklahoma, the rest is completely specific to two imaginary people. But what the heck, if you're getting to watch a movie in class, enjoy the break. Take a nap or something. And the nudity... well, just try watching the 70s version of Romeo and Juliet which is what I watched in 9th grade! Far and Away is nothing.

Yep, I'm also watching this in my Socials class in Canada. We're watching it because we're learning about immigrants reason of emmigrating here, and their working and living conditions in America.
