Under-appreciated Musical Score

Surely most people know the reputation of John Williams, but I feel like his score for Far and Away gets completely ignored when people talk about his great work. It's big, grand, sweeping and versatile (going from Ireland, to Boston, to Oklahoma with different styles while maintaining a cohesiveness).

Anyone else out there think this is a great score?

reply

Yes, I love it! It made a big impression on me when I first saw the movie, and years later, out of the blue, I got the urge to buy the soundtrack - which is something I rarely do... I agree, it's terrific!

I've owned the cd since I first saw the film ages ago. I've been asked for copies of it frequently from friends that have heard it. I've even used a track for a musical kur. The music is great for anyone who rides horses if you happen to do dressage.

I even did a paper on it in college.

Yeah I'm in band and really appreciate this score.

I play French Horn and loved some of the solos in there. John Williams really does an amazing job writing music.

Williams' score was wonderful. As good as anything he's ever done.

reply

I actually believe to be one of his finest scores.

I analyzed the score for college and got an A. Don't have it anymore. :(

"Charming company you keep."
