The Ending was so predictiable
The movie was ok, but seriously the ending was so pathetic.
I mean c'mon, he dies and then comes back to life, very predicitable

and??
shareas one who usually would prefer "truthful," even unhappy ending to a forced happy ending, i can say that i love this film's ending. i would've been disappointed had it ended the way it seems like it will - before you realise that's a "false ending." :-)
it's because everything in the narrative is building towards that very real ending. fi the ending seems like a cliche, ask yourself why? because there are so many tacked-on "happy endings." seems like, for every 10 stories of this kind, 9 have phony endings. well, this one can't end any other way without being an abject failure, i.m.o. and i should know...i critique just about every movie i see beginning with its ending. I thought the end was alright I mean it would have been a really *beep* ending had he died.
They think we're the demons now - Prue Halliwell ~ All Hell Breaks Loose ~ Charmed
If it had ended like Cold Mountain or City of Angels I would have been pissed!
shareI was literally screaming at the TV when I thought Joseph died...so yeah even if the ending was a little cliche with the whole coming back to life thing I'm glad they didn't kill him off.
shareI didn't realize until I rewatched this movie today that the "reviving" is at least suggested by the director as the result of a "miracle" performed by Joseph's dad.
I mean, he promised he would watch his son from above if he'd ever get the land, and then we get that scene with the camera going straight up and then down as if descending from the heavens.
This makes it no less cheesy but quite a bit more senseful (is that a word? sorry, not my language).
Nicole Kidman gave possibly her best performance for this movie, a really stunning one.

Well of course its predictable!! that motif was setup in the beginning of the film with his father's death and promise to watch over him from heaven.
The small miracle at the end of the film is nothing but the closing of a motif-arc setup in act 1.
makes perfect sense and having his "resurrection" is a pretty original ending, compared to most movies.
