should've ended MUCH earlier

This film was so long that I actually screamed because the boredom was too much for me to take. I think it should've ended with Tom Cruise running away after he delivered shot Nicole to Steven. The movie was awful after that scene.

Academy Awards = the Creme de la Creme of Bull Sh*t

My husband and I saw this in its initial release and felt that it should have been at least 2 movies and maybe 3.It was definitely way too long. We could hardly wait till it was over. I had several reasons to see the movie: one in that I am half Irish; two was that I hold a Social Science teaching credential in history and wanted to see how they treated the land rush in this movie. My question is that how did her parents make it past the guards to get into the land before the starting time and the line?

I agree that the movie went on to long, but if it had ended there, we would have missed the land race. IMO that is the main reason to watch the movie.

It seemed like they were going for a "Gone With The Wind"-type lengthy, sprawling epic. Unfortunately this movie didn't have the kind of talent, parallel stories or sense of passing time to carry an epic story. I thought a good writer could have whittled it down significantly.

I would have liked to see that first winter, with Joseph and Shannon barely surviving in a sod hut, and trying to raise wheat on an untilled prairie covered with glacial scree. But the film was long enough as it was.
