Because then it would change the theme of the movie. The main theme was about coming to America to start a better life...there were struggles, but they weren't always impopssible. That was the point, and if he died, then the whole "people coming to America and getting through the hard stuff so our lives are easier now" theme would be ruined.

shareI missed the beginning of this film, and wonder if someone could explain to me how his father "died twice". Was the scene somewhat similar? and what caused his father to come back to life? Thank you.

When he died the camera began to fade upwards as if his soul/spirit were leaving his body and floating away. When Shanon says that she loved him from the first time she saw him, she always has, his soul/spirit rapidly descends back into his body then he abruptly awakes and opens his eyes. So it is pretty much implied that he died and his soul came back when he heard that Shanon loved him.

Seriously, if you were knocked into cardiac arrest/near death experience, no way you would be jumping up to plant the stake in the ground mere seconds later.
So a, he was just knocked unconscious, or b, it's a movie, magic movie things happen. heheh
Those are the kind of sourpuss comments people make about movies when they have no imagination or appreciation for what a movie is: escapism.
