did he actually die at the end?

or was he just faking it?

reply

It was just a movie. ;)

reply

I think he actually did die and then come back to life like his father did.
Or death, may have just been him passed out.

reply

he DID die. it's exactly what happened to his dad except that he still lived of course

reply

yeh, he did die and then came back to life! I couldnt stop laughing when he came back, I love the film but that was a little cheesey! Death scenes are normally sad, but i just laughed and laughed! lol

reply

lol i couldnt stop laughing neither...i was on the floor cracking up!

reply

how does someone even die and then come back to life unless they go to cardiac arrest and they do cpr and get his heart pumping again but on this movie he just suddenly wake up I know its a movie but wehy couldnt they make it a happy ending like that in titanic or in moulin rouge lol.

Because then it would change the theme of the movie. The main theme was about coming to America to start a better life...there were struggles, but they weren't always impopssible. That was the point, and if he died, then the whole "people coming to America and getting through the hard stuff so our lives are easier now" theme would be ruined.

reply

Yeah ... because *that* would have ruined the film.

reply

Uh...hey there buddy, I don't quite like your tone about this film. I'm sensing some over-the-net sarcasm and I'm not liking it too much.

This movie = One of the BEST Tom Cruise movies I've ever seen. Ever.
This movie = One of the ONLY Tom Cruise movies I actually like.

Whatev.

reply

No offense OP, but ever heard of spoiler-tags?

reply

I missed the beginning of this film, and wonder if someone could explain to me how his father "died twice". Was the scene somewhat similar? and what caused his father to come back to life? Thank you.

When he died the camera began to fade upwards as if his soul/spirit were leaving his body and floating away. When Shanon says that she loved him from the first time she saw him, she always has, his soul/spirit rapidly descends back into his body then he abruptly awakes and opens his eyes. So it is pretty much implied that he died and his soul came back when he heard that Shanon loved him.

Duncan Idaho02 beat me to the answer

reply

haha, the end was awesome my friend and I were laughing so hard
aww he died, no wait its magic music!!! he's coming back to life! go magic music!!!
it was awesome...

reply

lol, why don't they just play magic music at hospital emergency rooms?

Seriously, if you were knocked into cardiac arrest/near death experience, no way you would be jumping up to plant the stake in the ground mere seconds later.

So a, he was just knocked unconscious, or b, it's a movie, magic movie things happen. heheh

reply

Those are the kind of sourpuss comments people make about movies when they have no imagination or appreciation for what a movie is: escapism.

It's no different then when someone who goes to the emergency room and codes to where for a short while they're clinically dead until the doctors revive them.

reply

Except when you are revived, your body was still crushed by a horse.

reply

Forget cardiac defibrillators! Every emergency room should be equipped with a recording of Shannon Christie saying 'I really did love you' as 'Magic Music' plays in the background.

reply

It's implied that his father helped him from Heaven, as he promised before dying.
