Ow, My Pancreas

I saw this movie in the theater and rented it several times back in the early/mid 90s. I recently bought this on DVD and it seems like the scene where they teach Link to fight is cut short. I remember after he pics Stoney up, there is a shot from outside where Link drops him and he says "Ow, my pancreas." In my DVD, it cuts off after he picks him up. Am I crazy or does anyone else remember this?

reply

No, you are right. I actually just watched this movie two days ago (which explains why I'm looking it up on here now) and I remember watching it.

This line was also one of my favorites to quote when I was a kid.

"Hey, it's all part of the magic."

reply

I remember that line being on a VHS copy. I own this film on DVD as well, and I guess the scene IS cut short.

reply

Oh my god, thats so wierd. is there a worldwide resurgence in "California Man" (thats what its called in the UK by the way) i just watched it like an hour ago on TV. Great film, haven't seen it for years!

Yeah your right bout the "Ow, my pancreas" line. Thats like the funiest part of the movie. Can't imagine why they would cut it out of the DVD version! That just doesn't seem to be very "grindin". It's wierd tho cos it ties in to something Stoney says earlier in the film when the two dudes roll the skateboard into Daves path at Blades and Stoney says something like "that was not cool, he could have hurt his pancreas" or something along those lines.

So basically what i'm asking is this, have they cut that scene out of the DVD also, or is it still there cos if it is then its a pretty stupid move to cut the later scene if you catch my drift?

Anyway somebody let me know cos i might look into purchasing a copy for myself.

Hit me back.

SHUSH!!!!!

reply

You're kidding, right? I just saw this movie on TV in Norway! Encino Man is taking over the world!
That pancreas line is gold, I immediately started Googleing that body part.
This movie deserves way higher than 5.0! It isn't meant to be Schindler's List, it's meant to be a fun-fun-fun movie!

The Vikings are attacking! HUSS, HUSS, HUSS!

reply

If you love this film you must watch 'Your in the army now' it's got Pauly Shore as the main character and he is just as funny! If you havn't seen it go out and buy it!

reply

Cheers for the input Scorpion and Sam but can anybody answer my question about the pancreas thing being mentioned earlier in the movie? look a couple of posts up for the details, cos that be where the devil be! (the details that is not the pancreas) LOL

Cheers

reply

BOTH Pancreas-scenes were in the version they showed in Norway, mate.
And they ROCKED.

The Vikings are attacking! HUSS, HUSS, HUSS!

reply

All I know is that in the U.S. DVD version, the pancreas line in the wrestling scene is cut.

reply

they are currently showing this on TBS, and i noticed that both of the pancreas lines were aired..

reply

The pancreas line is in the VHS version, I watched it like everyday when I was a kid and still break it out once in a while. One of the best lines of the film, guess I won't be upgrading to the DVD.

reply

Thank God! The movie really suffers when they are deleted.

Do you think "pancreas" is a euphemism for "penis"?

You--lighten up. You--big trouble. You--get in the car.

reply

Not to be a turd or anything, Caspar, but in Pauly Shore language 'grinding' means 'eating'.

reply

Is that so. My bad.

reply

I live in the uk to, but my copy has the "Ow, My Pancreas" line in it which is kinda strange, i had my copy for about a year and a 1/2.

reply

My copy of the DVD (UK 'California Man' copy) is identical to the VHS copy that I have - the pancreas comments are still there ;) Bud-dy! xxx

reply

I just watched it for the first time on DVD (the US release, rented from Blockbuster), and the pancreas line was there. I heard it clear as a bell... I just hope when I buy it now I get whatever version had the pancreas line in it...weird.

reply

This is really weird! I just put my copy in (U.S. copy) and the line is cut out -- I never noticed it before. And they didn't cut it out very cleanly either! Looks like a third grader did the edit on it!

reply

I've seen this twice on TV, and both times I remember seeing that part. I guess it's just something they cut short in your DVD, because they didn't cut it short on TV.

C'mon Mikey, make me feel like a woman! Give me a nice wet lickery kiss!
-Gotta love Mouth!

reply

I think they took it out because he said pancreas earlier on in the movie "(hey you shouldn't do that, you could hurt his pancreas or something) it would seem odd to do it twice.

Although yes I too have been watching the movie quite a bit lately and noticed that it was left out. Really weird.

reply

thats a really funny line

reply

No no no... That line is GOLD! :D

California Man is one of the most under-rated films ever!
I loved it years ago and I still love it now.

Yea Dude fo'real - I'm a BOWL BAKED BOZO (stoner) and it's my favourite movie

reply

I knowest that part was cut out as soon as I watched it on DVD. Why in the world would they cut that part out? It was funny.

reply

This is actually still my top quote to say. Only my best friend knows about it, so when I say it randomly everyone gives me a wtf look...but my bff and I just laugh.

I'm almost 20 years old and this is still a riot!

I have a head for business and a bod for sin. Is there anything wrong with that?

Someone once told me that this had to do with the chapter changing. Something about as soon as it gets to a certain point it just goes right into the next chapter and cuts that off. I read it happens in other movies too, mostly with just scenes. One movie I can remember this happening as well is I still know what you did last summer. A chapter jump cause a few seconds to vanish from the film. if you watch the vhs and theatrical copy of the movie there is a scene where JLH gets out of the tanning machine and then exits with the other casts members. What is very memorable about that is that the scene shows her behind for a few seconds. On the dvd just as the group turns to go out the door it cuts to the next chapter where they enter the front of hotel. I'm guessing certain dvds were not properly made.

reply

Just saw it on TV today. Definitely had both pancreas lines -- I was reading this thread while watching the early part of the movie, so I was watching for it.

It wouldn't make sense to cut it because it was a 'repeat' joke -- in fact that's the point, it's a self-referential joke. From 'you could hurt someone's pancreas', a very unusual statement, to the actual realization of that danger. Quite funny. :)

i own this movie and i remember one time i saw it on television where dave and link get picked up from prison by his parents. am i the only one, or has someone else seen this too?

reply

Yes some network television versions do include such a scene.

reply

That is a crying shame they cut scenes out! I first saw this movie back in '94 or '95. If I'm not mistaken, on TV. It's been one of my favorite silly comedies since! I love this early '90's teen comedy and want to see it in its entirety with all ellusive scenes added back in. It's not exactly a long movie in its most common form in the VHS and TV versions. So why in the world would they cut out scenes from the DVD version? Am I missing something? Especially the scene everyone is talking about here where Link and Stoney are wrestling and Link throws Stoney on the ground and from an outside perspective looking in the window you hear Stoney say "Ow...my pancreas." That is classic! Not to mention it ties well to the other scene at the ice skating rink where Stoney again makes reference to the pancreas when he says something like "You know you guys could have hurt his pancreas or something?" He says it so seriously which makes it THAT much more funny! If you love this movie as much as I do, I highly recommend "In the Army Now" and "Son-in-Law", both starring Pauly Shore. Anyone have a time machine to take me back to the early '90s?

reply

oh man, this is one of my favorite movies of all time and i've loved it since it first came out (and i don't even smoke pot). and yeah, i have a dvd copy and it DOES NOT have the pancreas line.

reply

ya same here, i bought it and when that scene came up and it was cut i was pissed off! i used to say that all the time when i was little lol

reply

I just brought the DVD last night here in Australia and the line is still included. Very Weird.

reply

One of the most memorable lines in the movie for me. Stoney also says something like "you know you could've hurt his pancreas or something" when the two skaters trip Dave with a skateboard at Blades as well.

Anyway, my VHS copy from many years ago features that line; I'm sorry to hear that the DVD copy doesn't!

reply

Old thread I know, but I'm watching my US DVD copy now and it doesn't have the golden pancreas quote. It's weird because I saw this on tv a few times back and it did have the quote. What's up with the mystery of the disappearing quote I wonder?? Hmm...

reply

i just finished watching it on movieplex on demand. he says it. i laughed. sounded like something my fiancé would say.

reply

I can't believe that line isn't in the DVD version. One of the funniest lines in the movie.

"Yeah, but it's a DRY heat!" (Aliens, 1986)

reply

I have a "California man" copy.

Why would they take the pancreas reference out of the US DVD?

Out of some irrational "PC" idea of not offending Diabetics?

I have type 1 Diabetes, and I make jokes about my worthless pancreas sucking all the time.
