I know this came out in 1992 but it looks more like its set in 1986 or 1987.

pure early 90s, zero 80s vibe whatsoever

A lot of movies made in 90, 91 and 92 still had an 80s vibe to them. Once it hit 93/94, the 80s were officially over in Hollywood.

No way, everything about this was pure early 90s - the hippy vibe, the clothes, the music, all sooo 90s, I'm actually surprised that it was shot in 1991 yet didn't have a any trace of an 80s vibe to it tbh

It's actually slightly more '90s than most movies at the time (1991-1992).

It's pure 90's. The first 2-3 years of any decade are pretty much the same as the previous decade. 1960-1963 were pretty much the same as the 50's, 1970-1973 were pretty much the same as the 60's, etc.
