Why did they cut out Tracy Ullman...

Does anyone know why they eliminated Tracey Ullman from the final cut of the film? If anyone does...could you let me know. If you saw the "original" trailer for the film, it includes Tracey Ullman. She appears to play and assistant type character to either Mad or Hell. In it you can see she tries to keep them out of trouble? So many scenes that where in the "original" trailer where cut out. There is even a serious car crash scene, on what looks like Rodeo Drive. In the scene everyone involved gets up & walks away without injury. Again, this was in the "original" trailer. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Just wish they would release a "special" edition of the film with the original ending and deleted scenes. And of course the "original" trailer.

Apparently, after deciding to change the ending, they felt her character was unneccessary, since she was no longer included in the film's conclusion. That's what I read, anyway.

She plays a bartender in a bar where Bruce Willis is a regular and she is the perfect woman for Bruce. Makes him feel important, valid, a man. She escapes with him at the end and I'm told the ending is so great! Pity.

Yes it reads nicely and could be included, everything is there to put it back in but we won't have the hilarious ending that we love ;-)

I'd love to see Tracy! You can read all the deleted scenes in the screenplay, it's in a topic on this site!

I think this would have improved the film. Without Ullman there were no sympathetic characters, nobody to root for. Willis was a schlubby alcoholic weasel loser and making him the protagonist in the third act didn’t really work. If Ullman was there we’d want him to succeed so they could be together.

This film needs a director’s cut.

The test audiences wanted a darker ending. Tracey had a significant role, and if you look on Youtube for the original trailer, you'll see some of Tracey's scenes. I have the original script. They really need to release a special DVD for the 20th anniversary with a director's cut attached!

Oh I hope they do!

I think the movie is great, but does start to maybe drag a bit at the end. I don't think another character and extending the runtime would have helped. It'd be nice to see those scenes as special features on a disc release.
