What's your TCE favorite quotes?

There are many memorable quotes from the movie. This is one of my favorites:

Hale: You're falling for him.
Kate: What?
Hale: Doug.
Kate: [sarcastic] Yeah.
Hale: You are. You're falling for him.
Kate: Well, that's crazy.
Hale: You think so?
Kate: You're nuts.
Hale: Am I?
Kate: Well, you see how we act together.
Hale: Yes, I do.
Kate: We never get along. I mean, we're always fighting.
Hale: Foreplay.

[Doug is carrying Kate's flowers and walking her back to her room. The long program is the next day]
Doug: Man, this overnight thing is brutal. Why can't it be a double header, you know? Short program, long program. Same night, boom, we're outta here, you know what I mean?
Kate: Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
Doug: It's like 'Enough already!' It's like... what's the word? Uh, y-you know what word I'm looking for? Wh-You know what I mean?
Kate: [trying to open her door] I don't know, uhhh, expectation?
Doug: No, no, when you, uh...
Kate: Anticipation? Excitement?
Doug: Foreplay!
Kate: [looks up in shock, stunned] Foreplay?
Doug: Yeah, you know, like foreplay.
Kate: Yeah, I know what it means.
Doug: Well, wouldn't you rather just get right to it?
Kate: What?
Doug: Skating. Long program.
[Kate stares, wide-eyed]
Doug: Chicago? Nationals?
[holds up her bouquet]
Doug: Flowers?
Kate: [still stunned, takes her flowers] Sleep. I'd rather sleep.
[She goes into her room, leaving Doug very confused outside]

"Toe pick"

"I'm in the mood to kick a little ass"

This is one of my favorite movies!

MB75 I agree with all three statements and would add,

The part where he has done his pre-skate-jitters vomit behind the curtain and she is telling him "look at me look at my forehead, now breathe" Then when he does she says,

"Just not on me"

What a great feel-good flick.

Two of my favorite quotes are:

When wer'e through here, can we please teach it how to breath with its mouth closed?

At the New Years Eve party as Kate and Doug exit the study - I was going to tell you, that book you gave me, it's pretty good! Really, using it as a doorstop or a coaster?

reply

Kate: Did you ever play with magnets?

Kate: You used to have to push them around...and they'd push away and you push them around the table?

Kate: All you really had to do was just flip them over, and suddenly...

Kate: Don't you see? That's why everything's been so awful.

Kate: All we needed was a little flip.

Doug: Common Kate, it's not right. What about Hale?

Kate: Oh, Hale Shmale!

Kate: We're through.

Kate: Our engagement is off...Flip!

I Love This Movie!

I think I watched this movie like everyday for the past month...I love Moira Kelly! She's so pretty in this film. :D

i've two favorite zingers, both doug zingers at kates expense

the first when she says "in fact i do have a boyfriend, he's currently running my fathers london office"

doug: you must look good from a few thousand miles away

the second is at the new years party when hale is scolding doug about not liking to see kate upset

doug: if i were you, i'd invest in blinders

what makes that even more hilarious is for a split second, hale laughs at it too before he catches himself.

The scene right before Doug and Kate take the ice at the Olympics (I cut out those annoying "Madmoiselles" and "Hurry up" lines from all the Olympics officials, because it kinda ruins the effect of these lines.)

Doug: Kate. I'm sorry. My timing-- I know it stinks. But I just keep thinking this thing with us, it's gonna go away. I keep thinking if I can just keep moving and checking, I'll get clear. But...Do you understand what I'm telling you?

Kate: I don't want to fight anymore.

Doug: No-- I mean, yeah. I don't want to fight anymore either. Wait... Kate maybe I wasn't ready. Maybe you didn't give me much of a chance. Maybe I don't know, I just, I just... Kate, somewhere in the middle of all this, I fell in love with you. I'm saying I love you. I'm saying it out loud. Don't say we're not right for each other, because the way I see it, we might not be right for anybody else. It can't be any harder to stay together than it was to stay apart. Kate, I need you. I need you.

the last line in the film

"just remember who said it first"

9/10th of the time its so macho for the men to play the strong silent type and the women to swoon and gush over them. half the movie is them torturing themselves over some stud muffin.

how many punchlines and tired, drawn out gags and storylines dredges up the mans inability to say I Love You

he said it first, her reaction was priceless, and he gets to own that moment for the rest of their relationship. i just think a perfect ending to the film, punctuated by the (disregarding the new years peck on the cheek) first kiss by the lead couple just prior to the credits rolling lol

Paraphrasing...

Doug: What are those claws on the front of the skate?

Kate: Toe pick

Doug: It has something to do with personal hygiene?

Kate: I wouldn't let that get in your way.

reply

^^
Doug: "i never let anything get in my way."

the first when she says "in fact i do have a boyfriend, he's currently running my fathers london office"

You left out the best part. After she says that she does have a boyfriend, Doug then says "That's a rough gig. What, do you keep him chained up in the basement?"

And another funny line when Doug is asking Kate what she does for fun and asks her if she polishes her knife collection.

Definitely toe pic! every time he falls down.

I'm sure I don't do anything you would find exciting.... I don't open beer bottles with my toes. I don't sit around and count what's left of my teeth.... Hey, I don't even enjoy a good tractor pull. A bit limited existence, but I've gotten used to it.

Mine is simple.

"It didn't have to be like this."

In and of itself, that's not a huge statement. But considering Doug said it after Kate argued with him about him turning down a drunken bed romp with her, it says volumes.

Basically, he said that their first time together could have been so much better than that, and it pretty much confirmed he'd given it thought.

reply

^^^this! With you 100%

Such a great, intuitive comment and Kate never even thought about it.

reply

Oh I know! Sometimes the simplest, shortest statements (and actions) can be the most romantic of all!

reply

Of course he gave it thought. He is a man. He gave it thought within minutes of first meeting her, guaranteed.

Just watching it again now, and though this movie has its flaws, most notably Doug's inability to speak in the final scenes until the very end, I still love this movie.

Moira Kelly and DB Sweeney are gold together. They MAKE the movie.

Best lines?

Drops her ass- "I think that move needs a little work."

"You see us. We are always fighting."
"Yeah, FOREPLAY."
