Wierd coincidence of when British Army appears (spoiler)

The British army all of a sudden appeared and ran over Jody right after Fergus let him go. First of all that's the most unlikely coincidence you could conceive of and second is the British army that inept? I.e. they just blindly bomb the IRA location (and how did they discover the location just at that moment anyway?) thereby killing Jody while most of the IRA members escaped.
The other thing about this is later in London Peter and Jude say he "f-- up" even though Jody died. So how did he mess up? By not shooting Jody before he died?!
However I really liked this film, I just think it was lame how the British Army thing occurred, since it was too unrealistic. Any thoughts?

Play the game existence 'til the end...of the beginning...

Jody was bate.
The British were tracking him (by helicopter)
They planned on blowing him up in the house.
They didn't like a queer black dude beating them at cricket
and loving them so much in the process.
The armored car was just for mop-up.
Panic + small windows = roadkill.
