How do Brits rate his accent?

I'm Australian so I'm probably better at judging how good it is over an American, and I rate it pretty well.

He changes from cockney to posh which I'm sure is a rare thing in real life. I think his posh sounds more put on but maybe that's the character of Chaplin over compensating for his lower class origins.

Not a rare thing. In order to have a career in acting, getting rid of your regional accent, and speaking with an RP (received pronunciation) accent was necessary throughout the 20th century. Even radio and tv presenters had to take elocution lessons to get rid of their regional accents.

Although actors like Michael Caine and Sean Connery refused to. I like them both, although they aren't known for doing good accents in film. maybe that's why.

Similarly, Sean bean from Sheffield, a northern lad.
