Who did Geralidine Chaplin play?

Chaplin's mother. She was a warmhearted woman who wanted her two sons all the good in the world, but sadly she suffered from serious mental illness most of her life and was not able to give them proper support. Geraldine does a wonderful, intensive performance, although she doesn't resemble the older Hannah.

She played her grandmother, on her father's side, in this movie.
