The ONLY thing that bothered me....

...was the "older" Chaplin's makeup. It was absolutely awful! It took away from some very good scenes, especially the end. I really wish it had been better, but other than that, it was a wonderful film. I've loved it since it came out, even though I was very young, always had an appreciation for biographical and classic films...I thank my grandparents for that. Now, I've seen other posters here saying "Oh it was awful, it didn't spend time on any of his films..." "It was so off base with his film making..." This wasn't about Charlie the film maker, the actor...it was about Charlie the MAN. His emotions, his love, his LIFE! Not his films. And as for that stupid a$$ pedophile remark...it wasn't so off base back then for older gentleman to marry young women. And look at him and Oona...the biggest gap in age and they truly loved each other till the very end. That's it, I've said my peace, let the haters hate, I do not care.

I'm about to watch this film again. I haven't seen it since it first came out.
That said... I can only imagine what you are referring to. So many people on these boards really don't get it. A lot of their remarks are ignorant.
Reminds me when I saw "Titanic" & a friend on mine said she liked it... but it showed too much of the ship sinking!! I think I was speechless by her comment. Like I said... some people just don't get it.
Thanks for your post.

Most people don't realize that Charlie Chaplin had blue eyes. This isn't surprising since we only see him in B & W movies. In the final scene of the movie there's a closeup of Robert Downey as the elder Chaplin tearing up as he realizes that he is still loved for his work. But Downey has dark brown eyes. I wonder if they considered having him wear blue lenses, or if they thought that people might find that odd since it's against expectations.

He's a 27 year old man disguised with a mask to look over 80 and all you care about is the color of his eyes?
