They wouldn't have to exhume the body. Paternity could be determined thru any of Chaplin's children. The paternity test would finally prove, without a shadow of a doubt, clearing his name. Chaplin's 2nd wife Lita Grey asserted that Charlie had paid corrupt government officials to "tamper with the blood test results". However Joan Barry was also sleeping with billionaire oil tycoon John Paul Getty at the same time she was dating Charlie. So maybe if Getty was the father then the daughter would be entitled to a hefty inheritance.
At least the case brought about a change in law although 22 years later (btw one year after Chaplin had finished paying 21 years of court ordered child support) making blood test admissible in court. According to Wikipedia regarding the Chaplin case "The perceived injustice of the ruling later led to a 1965 change in California of civil procedure to allow blood tests as evidence".
IMO it was probably neither man that's why the the Child didn't go after either mans estate for more money once she was an adult.
