Did Tony Todd really put bees in his mouth?

It looked pretty damn real to me. I mean it has to be right?

Today they'd be CGI and they'd be really noticeable. Virginia Madsen had bees crawling all over her body and I gotta say that takes guts even if youre not allergic to bees but Todd's contribution was at another level. He was very committed and I take my hat off. Such an underrated actor too. He deserves a better career. His DS9 performance as Old Jake is one of my favourite TV performances ever. I was so moving and emotional.

For that scene they used real bees that were very young to ensure that their stingers weren't powerful enough to hurt the actors, especially since Virginia Madsen is allergic to bees. Even with them being young bees that could barely sting, I would have been terrified having them in my mouth like that.
