Minor problem with Trevor discussion

When we first meet Trevor, he is doing the urban legends presentation to his class. Afterwards, Helen says to him something like, "You promised not to do the urban legends lecture... You knew we were interviewing the freshmen, so why did you have to ruin it?" Then he replies with something like, "Helen, you're my wife and I love you dearly, but I can't hold up their education for you"...

But what bugs me is she isn't asking him to promise at this point... He had already promised... Why doesn't she say that to him? She's just like, OK... I get it... Instead, the dialogue falls flat... she should have said, "Then why did you agree to it?"

He already promised, then went back on it... showing he is a worm already...

Small point, but it bugs me every time I see it!

Great catch. I can only surmise that Helen deludes herself often when it comes to Trevor's duplicitous nature. I would guess that their relationship was built around that pattern of
Helen: "Hey you said A, but you did B"
Trevor: "Lies, blah, blah, excuses"
Helen: "I guess you're right- sorry for being so disagreeable"

Probably why the end is so satisfying.

Good catch indeed. I know this movie pretty well and yet I never noticed that before. I think she says something like 'You promised not to do the urban legends lecture until next semester' and he responds along the lines of 'I'm not going to hold up their education simply so you and Bernadette can finish your thesis'. If he never intended to postpone the lecture then he never should have made that promise in the first place. Or, if he made the promise and then for some reason changed his mind or realised he could no longer postpone it, then he should have told her first.

You're right and that is going to bug me as well from now on! :)

"He murders his wife every night. Other than that, I think he's pretty harmless."
